MANILA – Kiefer Ravena, the No. 2 overall pick in the recent PBA Draft, has agreed to sign a three-year maximum rookie deal worth P8.5 million with NLEX Road Warriors.
The Ilonggo was set to earn P1.5 million in the first year, P2.25 million in the second and P3.375 million in the final season of his rookie contract, according to Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao.
“Kiefer’s an immediate impact player. He’s an intelligent player who will fit right into our system. He’s a winner and a go-to-guy for our team,” said the seven-time PBA champion coach.
“He (Ravena) can also make his teammates look better because he’s the type of player who will make right decisions during the game,” Guiao said of the two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player awardee.
Unlike Ravena, his fellow top five picks Raymar Jose, Jason Perkins and Jeron Teng will be receiving less than the maximum allowable for a rookie from their respective squads.
Jose, a native of Pontreveda, Negros Occidental, signed to a two-year, P3.6-million deal with Blackwater Elite, while Perkins and Teng received a P150,000-per-month contract with Phoenix Fuel Masters and Alaska Aces, respectively.
“I would like to see first what he (No. 3 pick Jose) can give us,” said Elite team owner Dioceldo Sy. “There are always additional incentives, and we always give premium to players who deliver for the team.”/PN
