RDC-6 infra committee to tackle Ungka flyover today

ILOILO City –The infrastructure committee of the Regional Development Council (RDC) will discuss today the defective flyover in Barangay Ungka II, Pavia, Iloilo.

According to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas who chairs the committee, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 assistant director Al Fruto and Councilor Ely Estante who represents Iloilo City to the Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) 6 will be attending.

Committee co-chairman Marisa Segovia will preside the meeting.

Treñas asked DPWH to give a definite statement on how to make the Ungka flyover passable and how long would that take to be realized.

The flyover is suffering from vertical displacement. It is sinking.

“Residents of Iloilo City have long been waiting for this infrastructure to be made passable to ease traffic congestion especially during the holiday season,” said Treñas.

DPWH and International Builders Corporation (IBC), the contractor of the P680-million Ungka flyover, vowed to address the issues hounding the infrastructure project.

This was agreed upon during a recent meeting with Public Works secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Western Visayas officials and IBC held in Manila.

“The concerned parties…promised to fast-track the verification for the engineering interventions to address the problems,” IBC said in a statement.

The said meeting was also attended by DPWH’s Bureau of Design (BOD).

Bonoan pledged to hasten the recommendation for the engineering intervention by sending a technical working group from DPWH-BOD to Iloilo.

“The safety of the riding and driving public has always been our priority,” the IBC stressed./PN
