Rebel falls after 5 years of hiding

ILOILO City – An alleged Revolutionary Proletarian Army – Alex Bongcayao Brigade member and suspected gun-for-hire was arrested after five years of hiding.

The 60-year-old Noel Cafe of Barangay Pamuringao Garrido, Cabatuan, Iloilo was cornered around 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, in Barangay Tambal, Janiuay, Iloilo.

Authorities were armed with arrest warrants signed by Judge Mauricio Gomez of the Regional Trial Court for murder, attempted murder and violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, with a recommended bail bond of P120,000.

“We immediately went to the area after nakabaton kita information nga ara sya sa area. Ginserve naton dayon iya warrants,” Captain Alwin Salmon, chief of Janiuay Police Station, told Panay News.

A 12-gauge shotgun with ammunition was recovered from Cafe’s possession.

His murder and attempted murder charges happened in Cabatuan town sometime in 2021, while his illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm charge was filed sometime in 2018.

“Basi madamo pa iya kaso sa iban nga banwa kay amo lang ini amon nauyatan nga warrant,” Salmon said.

The suspect will face another charge for violation of RA 10591 for failing to show a license for his 12-gauge shotgun./PN
