Rebel suspect falls; guns, bullets, grenade seized

BACOLOD City – A suspected member of the of the New People’s Army (NPA) was arrested on Feb. 19 in Barangay Kamang-kamang, Isabela, Negros Occidental.

A .9mm pistol, bullets and a fragmentation grenade were also recovered by the police and military.

Harlyn Balora of Bacolod City was taken to the Isabela police station.

The following charges would be filed against Balora: violations of Republic Act (RA) 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and RA 9516 (Illegal/Unlawful Possession, Manufacture, Dealing In, Acquisition or Disposition of Firearms, Ammunition Or Explosives).

The arresting offers were from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, Isabela municipal police station and the Philippine Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion (94IB). Actually, they were supposed to arrest a certain Romeo Nanta who was charged with homicide.

But Nanta was able to flee, leaving his companion Balora behind./PN
