MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts made a quick work of Iligan City National High School, 25-14, 25-9, at the start of the 2019 Rebisco Volleyball League National Finals at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Alyssa Bertolano, Shane Carmona, Joan Monares, and Erika Deloria took turns on the offensive end. They finished off their opposition in less than an hour on Saturday.
The Thunderbolts surged to a 13-4 start after three service aces by Bertolano. The lead grew to as high as 15 points following an attack by Myrtle Escanlar en route to a 1-0 set edge.
Strong kills by Monares and Deloria to start the second set gave the Thunderbolts a quick 13-6 edge. Iligan City did not have a chance to come close as Bacolod ended the match with Carmona hit.
“It was a great start but we still need to fix some things,” said Thunderbolts assistant coach Roberto Calamba Jr. “It is still a long way to go so we cannot be complacent.”
After taking a break today, the Western Visayas representatives will return on Tuesday against University of Mindanao Tagum to be followed by Sibu of Malaysia on Wednesday and Hawaii on Thursday./PN
