MANILA – The Rebisco Volleyball League is plotting five pre-qualifying legs this year in Iloilo City, Iloilo province, Bacolod City, Aklan, and Capiz, according to Metro Sports Vice President for Operations Johanz Buenvenida.
The Iloilo City pre-qualifying leg is tentatively scheduled on May 17 to 18 at the Iloilo Doctors College Nursing Gym while the Iloilo Province leg is slated May 19 to 20 at the Bingawan Civic Center in Bingawan, Iloilo.
As of press time, there is still no schedule and venue for the pre-qualifying legs of Bacolod City, Aklan and Capiz.
“Based on the last meeting namin with Rebisco, as soon as medyo umayos ayos na ‘yung condition natin na mabigyan na tayo ng clearance we will be launching again the RVL 2020,” Buenvenida said.
“We will continue and as part of his legacy kami ‘yung magpapatuloy,” he added, pertaining to the late Freddie Infante, who was at the grassroots of the volleyball program.
In 2019, Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts represented Western Visayas in the Rebisco Volleyball League National Finals after beating Central Philippine University Golden Lions in the regional finals in Bacolod City.
The Thunderbolts had a decent campaign in the National Finals as they clinched the No. 4 spot after losing to Hawaii.
Their exposure in the tournament also led to some players being recruited by Manila-based schools. Joan Marie Monares will suit up for the University of the Philippines while Erika Deloria, Shane Carmona and Rhean Almendralejo will join the Enderun College.
Last year, the Rebisco Volleyball League planned to conduct the pre-qualifying, qualifying and national finals legs at the latter part of the year but was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic./PN
