Recent COVID-19 deaths alarm Bacolod exec

BACOLOD City – Fifteen persons here died of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) this April. Before the month is over, there could be more.

The casualties included two doctors and a 62-year-old city government employee assigned at the City Treasurer’s Office, according to City Administrator Em Ang, executive director of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Infections are expected to surge because of the city’s ongoing surveillance testing, Ang added.

The lifting of the travel moratorium for Bacolod-bound travelers, specifically those from areas with high COVID-19 cases, could be a triggering factor, she said.

Returning residents and authorized persons outside residence from the National Capital Region and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, Davao City and Cebu City were allowed to enter Western Visayas starting April 20.

Ang reminded Bacolodnons to always observe minimum health protocols even at home.

As of this writing, Bacolod City had 6,816 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 of which 691 remain active./PN
