ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas expressed outrage over the reckless actions of a driver from Barangay Calubihan, Jaro, who caused damage to public property, emphasizing the risks such behavior poses to public safety.

“Such behavior endangers lives and compromises the safety of our city,” Treñas said.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, Dec. 28, involved a car that recklessly forced its way through a row of decorative pots serving as barriers along Diversion Road in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

The pots were being used by the city government as temporary barriers to improve road safety and guide traffic flow during the holiday season.

The act caused significant damage and created potential hazards for both pedestrians and motorists.

In response, Mayor Treñas directed the City Legal Office to file a case against the driver and recommend the cancellation of their driver’s license.

Treñas also commended the Iloilo City Police Office for their swift action in apprehending the suspect, and announced that he would personally reward the officers involved.

“Let this serve as a strong warning to all drunk drivers: such actions will not be tolerated,” Treñas stated.

The mayor reaffirmed the city’s commitment to road safety and public protection, warning that anyone caught driving under the influence would face severe legal consequences, including license revocation.

“We are committed to keeping our roads safe and protecting public property. I call on everyone to be responsible and follow traffic rules to prevent incidents like this,” he added./PN
