‘Red alert’ for Akelco line crews, engineers

KALIBO, Aklan – Days before the May 13 polls, Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) placed all its substations under “red alert” status to ensure uninterrupted power supply in this capital town.

Akelco assistant general manager for engineering Joel Martinez said line crews and engineers have been positioned in its substations to respond to line tripping during elections.

Naka-duty sila 24 hours para madaling maka-response sa mga polling places pag may power interruption,” said Martinez.

He also added there will be no maintenance work on Akelco’s substations in Caticlan, Nabas, Lezo, Boracay Island, Altavas, and Kalibo.

Power generating plants in Nabas, Mabilo and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines also have contingency measures to address power supply within the franchise area of Akelco.

May clearing of lines at nagpalit tayo ng mga rotten poles in preparation sa eleksyon, na posibleng maging dahilan ng power interruption,” Martinez said.

He also urged the public to report power outages to the nearest Akelco substations.

Akelco serves the electric consumers in the province of Aklan and the northern towns of Antique. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
