ROXAS City – The city government approved the establishment of Balay Silangan Reformation Facility, a reform center for drug surrenderees and plea bargainers in the city.
Mayor Ronnie Dadivas recently met with concerned agencies such as the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Capiz, Roxas City Police Station (RCPS) and other stakeholders to discuss the project dubbed as Upod Kita sa Pagbag-o Reformatory Center (Roxas City Government Balay Silangan). Among the topics discussed was the allocation of funds for the prospected Balay Silangan.
The facility is an alternative intervention for drug personalities who are not constant users and not eligible for medical treatment and rehabilitation facilities since they were pusher-surrenderees.
The center gives them temporary shelter with an objective to make them self-sufficient and law-abiding members of society.
“Ini nga pasilidad magaserbi nga temporaryo nga puluy-an sang mga drug surrenderers nga aton pagabuligan agud magbag-o kag dalayon na nila nga malimtan kag malikawan ang bisyo sang paggamit ukon pagbaligya sang ilegal nga droga,” said Dadivas.
The project is also one of the requirements in the bid to make the city drug-free.
This initiative laid by the city government is in line with the implementation of Barangay Drug Clearing Program nationwide.
Other attendees were RCPS chief, Police Col. Aron D. Palomo; City Social Welfare and Development Office head Perseus L. Cordova; Roselyn San Pedro of Department of Interior and Local Government-Roxas City; and Engr. Antonio Amoroso Jr., among others./PN
