ILOILO – The re-election of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. is expected to be smooth in the upcoming May 9, 2022 elections.
He confirmed that “many” mayors have expressed support, mostly non-members of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) of which Defensor is a member.
“Regardless of (political) party nag-commit sila nga mabulig,” Defensor said.
Some of the mayors were members of the Nacionalista Party (NP).
According to Defensor, the lineup in the province has yet to be finalized; it would depend on the movement at the national level.
In fact, he said, he called acquaintances in Congress for updates but they, too, were waiting for developments.
Defensor admitted he has yet to pick a running-mate but that acquaintances – more than two – have shown interest.
“Pero that is developing. In the next several days ma-unfold na ‘na sia kag maplastar naman ina,” he said.
The filing of certificates of candidacy is from Oct. 1 to 8.
Defensor confirmed he had a conversation with 2nd District’s Cong. Michael Gorriceta recently but he refused to divulge details.
Gorriceta ran under the NP in 2019./PN
