MANILA – Western Visayas’ secondary and tertiary delegations continued to haul gold medals in the athletics and swimming events of the PRISAA 2018 National Games in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Franz Gela Romualdo Bintad captured a gold medal in secondary girls discus throw. The Escalante City, Negros Occidental native also had a bronze medal in javelin throw.
“I am just thankful na nakuha ko ‘yung sa discus throw,” Bintad told Panay News. “Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala na in a span of two weeks ay nakadalawang gold medals ako sa event ko.”
Bintad’s teammate May Therese Gula captured a silver medal in secondary girls 1,500-meter dash. Gula earlier won a bronze in the 800-meter dash.
The Blue Barons also had a dominant campaign in Day 1 of swimming over at the VDT Advanced Learning Center Campus with Stefany Louise Saac winning three gold medals.
Saac snatched her golds in juniors freestyle and backstroke where her sister Janelle Saac finished second.
The Saacs then teamed up with Earl Divinagracia and Adrian Yulo for the freestyle juniors gold.
Yulo also had a gold in juniors breaststroke and a silver in freestyle.
Divinagracia had a gold in juniors individual medley and silver in juniors butterfly.
Janelle, Yulo, Carla Arcenal and Danielle Valenzuela also had a gold in the team event.
Other gold medal winners were Julie Marie Occeño in seniors freestyle and breaststroke; Roy Vincent Sta. Rita in seniors backstroke; Julius Cesar Enrique in seniors individual medley; and Jhannah Kaye Elpeloa in seniors individual medley.
Taking silver medals are JJ Wilrickson Casidsid in seniors individual medley; John David Lee in seniors freestyle, girls seniors medley, juniors freestyle relay, and seniors freestyle relay.
Winning bronze medals were Arcenal in freestyle juniors; Justine Trayco in seniors breaststroke; Ashlee Robin Dequito in juniors butterfly; Julius Enriquez in seniors butterfly, juniors medley team, and medley seniors team.
In tennis, Althea Rose Martirez captured the gold in singles event while Stephanie Crisosto bagged the silver medal.
Rissa Ann Cubos and Avril Andrea Suace also won gold in doubles./PN
