Region 6 fire bureau office reopens after one-week lockdown

ILOILO City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 6 has resumed its normal operation after a week of closure when its 196 personnel were subjected to testing for possible coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection.

BFP-6 reopened on Monday. Personnel whose tested negative for the disease were manning it, according to Fire Senior Superintendent Jerry Candido, regional director.

The city government closed the BFP-6 office beginning June 15 after a newly-returned personnel from Cebu tested positive for COVID-19.

“We are back to normal operations,” said Candido .

Personnel who also did not have direct contact with their COVID-positive BFP-6 colleague were ordered to report to work.

As of yesterday, June 25, a total of 196 personnel been cleared. All of them were previously ordered to go on quarantine while waiting for the results of their tests.

Last week, the Department of Interior and Local Government said 28 BFP-6 personnel were relieved from their posts for making a trip to Boracay Island together with their COVID-positive colleague. It later clarified that these 28 were still under investigation and that only seven have been relieved so far effective June 18.

These seven sacked BFP-6 personnel were the following:

* Fire Superintendent Allan Agarin – chief of Logistics Division; reassigned to the Office of the General Support Service, BFP National Headquarters

* Fire Superintendent  Aldwin Salazar – assistant regional director for operations; reassigned to the Office of the General Support Service, National Headquarters

* Fire Superintendent Nazrudyn Cablayan – Provincial Fire Marshal of Aklan; reassigned to the Office of the General Support Service, National Headquarters

* Senior Fire officer (SFO1) Ralph Liban – Office of the Engineering and Maintenance Section, Logistics Division; to be assigned to the Office of the Regional Director,  National Capital Region (NCR)

* Fire Officer 2 (FO2) Marvin Gerzaniva – Office of the Information Technology; reassigned to the Office of the Regional Director, NCR

* Senior Fire Officer 4 (SFO4) Gene Aragona – officer-in-charge of Fire Control Operations Section; reassigned to the Office of the Regional Director, NCR

* Senior Fire Officer 2 (SFO2) Jonathan Hungriano – Health Service Section; reassigned to the Office of the Regional Director, NCR/PN
