ILOILO City – The Regional Maritime Unit 6 (RMU-6) welcomed its new commander.

Colonel Ervin Glenn Provido officially relinquished his position Colonel Juritz Rara.

Rara, a native of Zamboanga City and a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class 2000, vowed to continue the programs started by Provido.

He said he will focus in the campaign against illegal fishing and smuggling activities in the region.

“Before I assumed, I was directed by our director, Brigadier General Jonathan Cabal, to run after illegal fishers and smugglers. We have to intensify our monitoring so that we can help other law enforcers in neutralizing illegal fishing and smuggling activities” Rara told Panay News.

He added: “This is my first assignment in Western Vistas, but I will do my best to continue all the programs and projects initiated by Colonel Provido.

Meanwhile, Provido was tasked to man the maritime office in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) after one year and four months in Western Visayas.

During his stint in the province, Provido had excellence performance especially in the campaign against illegal drugs, wanted persons and illegal fishing.

One of his biggest accomplishments was the apprehension of a female senior citizen for possessing P4.2 million worth of giant clam shells during an operation on October 5, 2024 in Purok 4, Barangay Lantangan, Gigantes Island, Carles, Iloilo

RMU-6 personnel seized 70 sacks of giant clam shells weighing 2,800 kilos from the house of the 63-year-old alias “Evelyn”.

According to Major Janvier Gilza of RMU-6, the operation was executed following reports they had received that the suspect was involved in buying and selling of clam shells, locally known as taklobo./PN
