ILOILO City – The Regional Development Council (RDC) of Western Visayas endorsed the proposed budget of national government agencies (NGAs) and state universities and colleges (SUCs) amounting to P73.93 billion for fiscal year 2018.

Of the total budget, P66.78 billion is for 23 NGAs; P7.15 billion is for 11 SUCs.

The proposed budget was derived from a series of consultations.

This, together with other proposed budgets from other regions will be forwarded to the central offices of various departments for consolidation, said Regional Director Alfonso Bedonia of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

RDC is the highest decision- and-policymaking body in Western Visayas. It is composed of governors, city mayors, mayors of capital towns, presidents of league of municipalities, regional directors of national government agencies, and private sector representatives.

Bedonia said the proposed budget is limited to some line agencies only. Some did not participate in the regional budget process because they were not fully centralized, he explained.

The agencies included in the budget were the regional offices of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Tourism, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highway, and Department of Social Welfare and Development, among others.

Bedonia said the Negros Island Region (NIR) was not included in Western Visayas’ proposed 2018 budget for NGAs and SUCs.

NIR’s RDC prepared a separate budget proposal, he said.

The proposed budget for Western Visayas has two tiers. Tier 1 is for existing and continuing programs while Tier 2 is for new projects./PN
