BACOLOD City – The president of the Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) in this city will coordinate with the Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA) regarding the status of the informal settler families (ISFs) living under the Taculing-Alijis bridge in the village’s Purok Paglaum.

This comes after the drowning of a five-year-old boy on September 13.

Alias “James” along with his mother and elder brother were walking on a bamboo bridge on their way home located under the bridge when the former slipped and was swept away by the strong water current. His body was retrieved the following day in a river in Barangay Singcang-Airport.

Taculing barangay captain Lady Gles Pallen, who is also the LnB president, said she would verify if the around 10 ISFs living under the said bridge are included in the list of BHA for relocation.

“In case they have not yet availed t of the relocation, the barangay will ask the BHA to assist them to be relocated,” Pallen said.

She said she will also hold a dialogue with the ISFs on September 23.

The LnB president further recalled that the said area under the bridge was identified as a danger zone and had been cleared of ISFs three years ago.

She added that the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office had previously checked the area because of the alleged quarrying therein./PN
