ILOILO – With the help of a rebel returnee, the Philippine Army traced the unmarked grave of a long-dead leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Onop, Miag-ao town.
Soldiers of the 61st Infantry Battalion (61IB) dug up on Tuesday the remains of Mark Sasi alias “Aden”, team member, Ream 2, Squad 1, Suyak Platoon, Southern Front, Kometing Rehiyon Panay of the NPA.
According to rebel returnee “JC”, Sasi died in an encounter with troops of the 61IB last Sept. 23, 2019.
Lieutenant Colonel Harold Garcia, commanding officer of 61IB, said Sasi’s grave was near the NPA lair that solders overran on Sunday.
“May this incident serve as a lesson to all the rebels. They will suffer the same fate when they choose to fight for a senseless armed struggle,” Garcia said./PN
