ILOILO City – The remains of 67-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Milagros Sumaculob who died in an explosion in Lebanon is now home in Barangay New Poblacion, Buenavista, Guimaras.

This was according to her daughter-in-law Gen Marie, who posted photos of Milagros’ coffin arriving at the Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo from Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila on Tuesday morning.
Milagros was in her employers’ home when a powerful blast ripped Lebanese capital Beirut on Aug. 4.
Three other OFWs also died in the explosion.
Gen Marie thanked Guimaras Gov. Samuel Gumarin, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration administrator Hans Cacdac and Office of Civil Defense in Region 6 director Jose Roberto Nuñez, among others, for helping her family return home faster Milagros’ body.

Milagros’ son Patrick Ceasar, for his part, said he felt relieved the remains of his mother was repatriated swiftly despite travel restrictions due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

Nagapasalamat gid ako kay nakapuli si mama sang bilog kag makita siya sang mga himata namon. Bal-an namon si mama malipay gid kay bisan paano nakapuli siya sa lugar nga iya gindaku-an,” he added.

Gumarin, meanwhile, assured the bereaved family of support from the provincial government until Milagros is laid to rest.

Milagros went to Lebanon last June 2018. She was supposed to come home for good this December. (With Province of Guimaras/PN)
