BACOLOD City – “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.”
Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. gets this quote from the Bible (Mathew 22: 37 to 39) as his message to all Negrenses this Holy Week.
Marañon also urged Negrenses to “revisit their relationship with God” during the Christian celebration.
The governor believes that the Lenten Season is the time of the year when people must “reexamine” their faith and “renew our relationship with God and our brethrens”
“Lent provides us the most apt venue to reflect on our spirituality as we slow down to find a deeper meaning in Christ‘s sufferings to save humanity,” Marañon said.
Negros Occidental vice governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, meanwhile, cited Pope Francis while giving a message to his constituents this Holy Week.
Lacson said this Holy Week, the Pope wants “to help the entire church experience a time of grace with joy and truth.”
“We are all concerned about the chill that paralyzes hearts and actions, and see weakening in our sense of being members of the human family,” the vice governor continued. “The Negrensecommunity also hasa share of struggles that may bring about coldness of the heart…which is why I appeal to our beloved constituents to respond to the call of the Holy See to hear God’s voice and do what we can for others.”
Lacson said the Holy Week is a “good time” to appreciate blessings.
“As we pause from work, let us reflect on our capacities to shape lives of meaning that come from good intentions,” he added./PN
