‘Rent-to-own’ carts for vendors mulled

BACOLOD City – The city government is mulling to provide uniform carts to ambulant vendors in this city through a “rent-to-own” scheme.

It is proposed through the City Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office (CCLDO) that the ambulant vendors, particularly at the Bacolod Public Plaza, will be provided with uniform carts.

Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on markets chair Councilor Celia Flor said Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez also expressed wanting uniform carts and stalls for city vendors.

Flor also recently received a letter from a vendors’ association requesting the same.

However, the councilor clarified that the city will not deal with the association because the stall slots for all the vending areas are assigned individually as specified in a city ordinance.

In a mapping conducted by the city, there were 27 slots for 27 vendors allowed to do business in the area.

The said association was also proposing uniform carts, which Flor agreed to.

However, she noted that the proposed price of P27,000 per cart offered by the CCLDO is less amenable.

The councilor reminded that only carts with identification cards with stickers are allowed to do business in the designated vending areas./PN
