BORACAY – Hefty fines including revocation of franchise await e-trike drivers and operators in Boracay Island caught violating the Municipal Traffic Code.

E-trike drivers should obey the municipal ordinance or face suspension or revocation of franchise for third-time offenders.

Malay Transportation Office (MTrO) in charge Ryan Tubi said they issued citation tickets for e-trike drivers caught violating the municipal ordinance.

MTrO had received and acted on all 28 complaints against e-trike drivers. Of this number, eight were found refusing to take passengers to their desired destinations.

Other violations against erring e-trike drivers were careless driving, trip cutting, overcharging, prohibited parking, loading and unloading, unaccredited driver, and show of misconduct to passengers.

The majority of the complaints were filed by residents to MTrO, according to Tubi.

As the volume of tourists increases on the island, some ‘choosy’ e-trike drivers favored right now high-paying tourists rather than local passengers.

“We have not yet been endorsed by the Sangguniang Bayan for e-trike franchise revocation because according to the ordinance we need three complaints,” he added

Currently, MTrO personnel are working on the island daily for their clearing and apprehension operations.

Tubi has reminded the residents and tourists to report the abuses of e-trike drivers in Boracay Island for the MTrO to promptly act on the complaints.

With its Bilis Aksyon scheme, MTrO will review, investigate and immediately resolve the passengers’ complaints against erring drivers.

“Not all e-trike drivers in Boracay are pasaway,” he added./PN
