BACOLOD City – Conspicuous signs or warning devices must be installed at public works to prevent accidents, a city councilor stressed.
The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) and the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) must require contractors to put them up, said Councilor Richard Tan.
Tan lamented the excavations left without cover or any early warning device along Burgos Street Extension.
Local governments are obliged to make sure roads are hazard-free.
Specifically in Bacolod City, the BTAO and the CEO are tasked to regulate and monitor road hazards,Tan said in a resolution.
Among such hazards are excavations by companies undertaking repair and maintenance of underground facilities, road repairs/or expansions, and drainage systems upgrade, among others, he said.
Left without warning devices, such excavations “pose a traffic hazard,” said Tan. “[They cause] accidents that [lead to] loss of life, limb and property.”/PN
