ILOILO City – Three volunteer rescue groups that helped save a drowning victim on Easter Sunday were recognized for their heroic deeds.

Unicorns Rescue Volunteer Brigade Inc., Arevalo Scorpions Rescue Volunteer Organization and Tiger Shark Rescue Volunteers Inc. were awarded certificates of recognition for quickly rescuing a drowning victim in Barangay Sto. Niño Sur, Arevalo district.

“The city government appreciates the efforts of volunteer groups. As we recognize them, I hope they will be more motivated to work and serve,” said Mayor Jose Espinosa III.

The child was almost half kilometer away from the seashore when spotted on the verge of drowning.

“Thank you for showing the heroism that everybody must look up to nowadays,” said Espinosa.

Fernando Arguillo, president of Unicorns Rescue Volunteer Brigade Inc., thanked the city government for giving them basic life support (BLS) and first aid training last November 2017.

“We thank the Iloilo City Emergency Responders for working with us, but most importantly, we are thankful for the training we had last year,” Arguillo said. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
