BACOLOD City — A resident of Cauayan town called “baseless” the accusation of the town’s vice mayor, Jerry Tabujara, that he was behind the criticism against the naming of a university campus after the official.
“I feel sad knowing that such statement came from a vice mayor and former mayor,” Raymund Agbay told Panay News in a text message yesterday.
The Central Philippine State University (CPSU) Cauayan campus has been renamed “CPSU Jerry M. Tabujara Campus.”
This stirred controversy after a photo of the campus with an accompanying critical message was anonymously left in the media center of the provincial capitol here last week.
Tabujara said a Cauayan resident, whom he identified as Agbay, was behind it.
“It is baseless,” Agbay said. “His public pronouncement is very irresponsible and unfounded.”
He said he will consult with his lawyer what appropriate charge can be filed against the vice mayor.
Tabujara “does not understand what his role as a public official is as far as ethics is concerned,” said Agbay. His pronouncement was “conduct unbecoming of a public official,” the Cauayan resident said.
Dr. Ma. Evageline Perez, campus administrator, earlier said only the campus was named after Tabujara, not the entire university.
She added that the campus name change “was approved by the Board of the school.”/PN
