ILOILO – Residents of Leon town, including motorists who go up to Bucari, also known as Iloilo’s “little Baguio,” were assured that a solution concerning the dangerous road in front of the Bucari National High School (NHS) is underway.
Second District’s Cong. Michael Gorriceta’s commitment followed the concern raised by a concerned citizen through Panay News that the curved and partly unpaved road in front of the school has become accident-prone.
“Ma-inform lang ko about sa complaint sang mga tawo sa uma namon sa Bucari, ang pinaka-delikado nga dalan ara sa tubang Bucari National High School, damu-damo gid nagaka-accident. Almost every week may gaka-slide,” the concerned citizen messaged Panay News.
The citizens also hoped for concerned agencies and offices such as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6, the Iloilo provincial government, and Leon mayor Ma. Lina Holipas and Gorriceta would take action.
As such, Panay News reached out to Gorriceta.
The solon said he was aware of the problem earlier and has already requested funding in the 2024 budget for the road’s repair. Holipas and the DPWH-6 are aware of it, too, he added.
But he explained that the best immediate solution is to reroute the road in the area.
At the same time, there are no other options for rerouting since the area is mainly mountainous.
“Pinaka-solution is islan ang alagyan pero amo na ang challenge kon diin na sila paagyon,” he told Panay News.
In the meantime, without the funding, the congressman said he will have proper warning signage installed in the area.
“Actually, napangayoan ko na ina sia budget for 2024 galing bal-an ta lang na kon magwa sia or indi kay kapila ko na ina gin-request,” Gorriceta said.
He coordinated with the DPWH-6 on Tuesday, Nov. 21, on the concern, which informed him that based on DPWH-6 monitoring, the road passes through a fault line; thus, the soil is unstable, subsequently destroying the partly paved road.
The agency has also requested a budget, but with the limited funds released by the central office, the repair is yet to materialize./PN
