MANILA – Accredited retailers of the National Food Authority (NFA) find the newly imported rice from Thailand more profitable, due to the good quality of the grains.

Ang kita mo sa commercial, wala pang isang libo,” rice retailer Conrado Lim, said in an interview with GMA.

According to consumers, the latest NFA supply is worth the price as it did not have any smell.

Mura kasi at saka maganda at saka walang amoy,” said Jade Guballo.

The Philippines bought last month an additional 250,000 metric tons (MT) of rice – 130,000 MT from Vietnam, the balance of 120,000 MT from Thailand.

The NFA earlier said the additional imports would arrive in the Philippines by the end of May, and would stabilize prices by June.

The state-run NFA, however, said the delivery was stalled due to enhanced rain brought about by Typhoon Domeng.

In the same GMA report, the NFA warned retailers that those selling NFA rice as commercial rice will be deleted from the government’s list of accredited retailers.

(GMA News)
