ILOILO City – A 90-year-old retired teacher living alone was robbed and killed in Barangay Tacas, Jaro district.
Rosa Argel was found dead in her kitchen by nephew Leonel Songcuya, 47, at around 9 a.m. on Saturday. She had head injuries.
A broken bottle was found near Argel. It may have been used to bludgeon her on the head, said Police Colonel Martin Defensor, city police director.
“This is a case of homicide and robbery,” said Defensor. “Her house was ransacked. Things were strewn all around. Her money was gone.”
A neighbor, Espe Tabuada, told the police she did not suspect anything out of the ordinary although Argel’s house seemed closed and she had not seen her come out.
Defensor said the police already have a person of interest but declined to give details.
The investigation is continuing.
