HOLY Week has come and gone while the fate of the world still remains uncertain.
Even though churches are closed and there is an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), devotees still managed to fulfill their duties through live stream and television.
This reminds me of the priest’s sermon I heard during an online Easter Vigil. He said that when this pandemic is over, the world will not be the same. Everyone will look at each other and the world with new eyes.
April 12 was Easter Sunday. That is when Christians all over the world celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus. When I think about it, how He rose from the dead, it reminds me of our situation now.
Other words for “resurrection” are “revival” and “resurgence”. Just like how it was with Jesus, society seems “dead” now. Streets are empty and cities are quiet. Yet, the world is healing.
There is less pollution. Animals are free to roam around. The Himalayas can even be seen from India for the first time after several years because there is less air pollution. People recognize the impact their footprint has on the environment
It’s not only the environment; people are healing spiritually and emotionally. We are learning new skills, realizing our job is not our life, appreciating our loved ones more and the mundane sites in our neighborhood we take for granted. We see the value of being able to touch other people without any worries.
This pandemic can be a sort of healing for humanity. Yes, it’s ironic but now we see how important health and good governance is.
We recognize the heroes among us who are willing to risk their lives to perform their duties.
We are more aware of other people’s situations and we are more empathetic.
This pandemic has given us a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
When this is over, and it will be over, we will really be able to step outside and see the world with new eyes. (angelica.panaynews@gmail.com/PN)
