ILOILO – The return of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) to Leganes, Iloilo will temporarily suspended for 12 days.
Western Visayas’ Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF) approved the request of the municipality for a moratorium beginning Dec. 21.
In requesting for the timeout, Mayor Vicente Jaen pointed out that their quarantine facilities were reaching full capacity.
He said the suspension of repatriation would give sufficient time for frontliners to rest and prepare the quarantine facilities before accommodating new batches of LSIs.
Apart from LSIs, the town also sought a suspension on the repatriation of returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs).
According to Jaen, the RIATF already endorsed the request to its national counterpart for approval.
As of Dec. 6, the town had a total of 78 COVID-19 cases – six were active, 71 recovered and two died.
Earlier, the municipalities of Guimbal and Estancia also imposed a moratorium on LSIs to avoid congestion in their respective quarantine facilities./PN
