BACOLOD City – The National Food Authority (NFA) has increased the allocation for rice outlets in Negros Occidental after the arrival of its additional imported stocks last week.

NFA-Negros Occidental provincial manager Frisco Canoy said that for this week, they have distributed 50 bags per outlet in major markets in Bacolod City.

In municipal markets, the allocation was 30 bags per outlet while outlets outside the markets were given 20 bags each.

When stocks were limited in the previous months, the NFA calibrated the distribution to only five to 10 bags per outlet.

This year, Negros Occidental’s second import allocation of 100,000 bags from Thailand arrived at the Bredco port in Bacolod on Nov. 23.

Marianita Gellecanao, assistant manager of NFA-Negros Occidental, said some 1,500 bags have been transported to the NFA warehouse in San Carlos City in the north while 1,000 bags have been delivered to the warehouse in Ilog town in the south.

The imported rice stocks that arrived comprise the second allocation for the province this year. The first, which totaled 80,000 bags, arrived last July. (With a report from the Philippine News Agency/PN)
