RETAIL prices of rice are expected to decrease in light of the harvest season this month, a farmers’ group said Saturday.

The Federation of Free Farmers Cooperatives on Saturday, Feb. 17, said that new rice supplies have begun to enter the market.

However, the price decrease will likely be minimal due to possible lower production brought by El Niño, the group said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, which was reported on “24 Oras Weekend.”

It further said that since the farmgate price is still P31 per kilogram, lowering the retail price to P50 per kilogram might not be feasible.

The group said rice would be sold to the general public for P55 to P56 per kilo after being distributed to retailers. (GMA Integrated News)
