Rice retailers to get cash aid

BACOLOD City – Rice retailers in Bacolod City affected by the government-imposed price ceiling will avail themselves of the P15,000 aid tomorrow, Sept. 13.

The financial assistance will be released to this capital city first and then to the rest of Negros Occidental province in batches, according to Provincial Director Lynna Joy Cardinal of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Occidental.

“During the payout, ara ang DWSD [Department of Social Welfare and Development] to give out the money, ara man ang DTI. And we are coordinating with the BPLO [Business Permit and Licensing Office] kung ara ang ila presence kay sila ang maka-check sa list kun qualified,” said Cardinal in yesterday’s press conference with Bacolod City mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.

Rice retailers registered with the BPLO and compliant with Executive Order (EO) No. 39 are qualified for the assistance, she added.

The EO, which took effect on Sept. 5, sets a price ceiling on regular and well-milled rice of P41 and P45 per kilogram, respectively.

Cardinal was set to meet with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) yesterday afternoon on the distribution.

Per DTI’s recent monitoring, most of the rice retailers in the province are now compliant./PN
