BACOLOD City – Wilmar Serenio was drinking with friends in Barangay Singcang-Airport early morning on Monday when a group of armed men emerged from a utility vehicle and shot him to death.
Wilmar is the brother of former Berya drug group member Ricky, who accused several law enforcers of receiving drug protection money.
In a radio interview Ricky said his brother’s death was the authorities’ way of getting back at him for his disclosures.
Wilmar, 31, was a resident of Purok Sampaguita 2, Barangay Singcang-Airport. He was a pimp at Goldenfield Commercial Complex on Araneta Street, according to Senior Inspector Wilfredo Denoman, Police Station 8 chief.
He was drinking with three others along the road, near a bridge, when his attackers disembarked from a white Mitsubishi Adventure that had no plate number past 12 midnight.
Wilmar and company scampered to different directions. The suspects — clad in short pants, bonnets and slippers — followed and shot him but missed.
Wilmar ran but the suspects followed and cornered him, and shot him several times, said Police Station 8.
The suspects then boarded their vehicle and fled toward Magsaysay Street, initial investigation showed.
Wilmar was hit on the different parts of the body. He was taken to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital but died around 2:30 a.m. A .45-caliber pistol was used on him, police said.
Denoman said they have yet to determine the motive./PN
