LEGENDARY Filipino singer Rico J. Puno died at the age of 65.
Concert producer, Anna Puno, confirmed this on Tuesday, but did not release the full details of the true cause of the OPM King’s death.
“I am seized with deep emotional shock when I found out that our OPM King-Kuya Rico J. Puno has passed away this morning,” said Anna. “Numbed with grief, I would like to call on all entertainers in the OPM Industry as well as his worldwide fans to stop for a moment and say a prayer to one of the most respected singers in the country.”
“I cannot help but say it was serendipitous that Starmedia prepared a solo 40th Anniversary concert for him and a US tour with the OPM stalwarts and colleagues just recently. Little did I know that this is his Final Bow in the live entertainment world. We will forever miss the TOTAL ENTERTAINER …but his songs will forever cherish in our hearts,” she added.
In April 2015, Rico underwent seven-hour heart surgery because he had a hard time breathing while on the tap of the Home Sweetie Home of ABS-CBN.
His last presscon was just Oct. 18, for his upcoming concert Sana Sana Ang Puso Ko , with Marissa Sanchez and Giselle Sanchez.
PEP.ph last seen a frail-looking singer at Rockwell Powerplant Mall in Makati City, with her son Tosca Camille-Ramos, on Oct. 21.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Makati City Mayor Abby Binay on Oct. 23, he announced that four times that Rico was rushed to the emergency room of a hospital last month due to a heart condition.
Rico’s health condition was the reason why Binay was prevented by his co-chairman of the 1st District of Makati City in the May 2019 election, but the veteran singer chose to move to another political party and resume his plan. (Pep.ph)
