ILOILO City – Around 25,000 – 30,000 strong supporters in green and blue shirts rallied behind Raisa Treñas and the whole slate of Team Uswag during yesterday’s filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs).

Team Uswag’s candidates for the Iloilo City Council led by mayoralty candidate Raisa Treñas aim to build a more progressive and united city. The slate is made up of re-electionists Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, councilors Miguel Treñas, Romel Duron, Johnny Young, Alan Zaldivar, Rex Sarabia, Frances Grace Parcon-Torres, Rudolph Jeffrey Ganzon, and Sedfrey Cabaluna; neophytes Sheila Olid and Nene Dela Llana; and the come-backing former councilors Lyndon Acap and Mandrie Malabor.

This warm and overwhelming support for Team Uswag clearly showed the Ilonggos’ collective sentiments for sustained growth and development that have been the hallmarks of the Treñas brand of leadership.

Raisa is the official candidate of Team Uswag for the mayoralty race. In tandem with her is Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, who is seeking re-election.

The young Treñas pledged to steadfastly support and serve every Ilonggo family with dedication and humility for the continued progress of the city.

She is committed to upholding the principles and the esteemed legacy of service exemplified by her father and idol in public service, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, as she strives for the betterment of the community.

“I carry with me the values my father instilled in me and the countless stories of every Ilonggo: stories of hope, resilience, and the dream of a brighter future. These are the pillars that will guide me as I work towards building a more progressive and united Iloilo City for every Ilonggo family. Together, we can make this vision a reality,” Raisa expressed as she deeply thanked all the supporters of Team Uswag.

Completing the formidable Uswag Team are the 12 strong candidates for city councilors, namely, re-electionists Miguel Treñas, Romel Duron, Johnny Young, Alan Zaldivar, Rex Sarabia, Frances Grace Parcon-Torres, Rudolph Jeffrey Ganzon, and Sedfrey Cabaluna; neophytes Sheila Olid and Nene Dela Llana; and the come-backing former councilors Lyndon Acap and Mandrie Malabor.

Team Uswag was accompanied by their respective families and supporters to the Comelec-Iloilo City at Robinsons Place after hearing mass around 1 p.m. at the Santa Maria Catholic Church.

As clearly shown by the latest survey conducted by Random Access Consultants Inc. (RACI) on October 1 to 2, 2024, Raisa is the preferred choice by the majority of the Ilonggos to be the next mayor of Iloilo City.

The survey results showed Raisa leading by 12.3 percentage points over her perceived adversary, former Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

Among the 600 survey respondents, 55 percent chose Raisa, while 42.7 percent favored Mabilog. Raisa is the eldest daughter of incumbent Mayor Treñas.

She grew up witnessing her father’s dedication to public service over the past 40 years, and this inspired and influenced her own commitment to serve the community.

Ganzon, renowned for the “Arriba Iloilo” campaign, is a seasoned public servant whose dedication to governance is a legacy from his father, the late Senator Rodolfo Ganzon.

The incumbent councilors Miguel Treñas, Duron, Young, Zaldivar, Sarabia, Parcon-Torres, Rudolph Jeffrey Ganzon, and Cabaluna, together with come-backing councilorables Acap and Malabor, have demonstrated their commitment to the Ilonggos through significant legislative contributions that have propelled the city’s development forward.

Olid brings her legislative experience and will continue to contribute to the city’s governance, having previously collaborated with the late City Councilor Joshua Alim before becoming a lawyer.

Dela Llana, on the other hand, with his background as a former legislative aide to Vice Mayor Ganzon and as an Executive Assistant to Mayor Treñas for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, is set to bring valuable insights and experiences for the betterment of the city, once elected./PN
