VALDERRAMA, Antique – Three youngsters drowned while crossing the river in Barangay Culyat here.
The Canja siblings Maricel (17), Maria (15) and Robin (11) were swept by Cangaranan River’s strong current at around 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 9.
They were on their way home, according to a relative who was with them crossing the river and luckily survived, the 13-year-old Victor Canja. A concerned resident managed to rescue only him.
The river’s water suddenly rose and became strong, sweeping the youngsters away.
The bodies of Maria and Robin were found in Barangay Cansilayan while Maricel’s body was retrieved near Barangay Lublub.
Valderrama is 53 kilometers from the provincial capital, San Jose de Buenavista. It is politically subdivided into 22 barangays./PN
