ILOILO City β The Regional Maritime Unit 6 (RMU-6) is intensifying its operations against the entry of illegal drugs via seaports across the region.
RMU-6 chief Colonel Ervin Glenn Provido said they are expecting 15 sniffing K9 dogs trained for illegal drug detection to be deployed in all local ports, especially in Dumangas.
Provido added that the RMU is coordinating with the Philippine Port Authority, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
βWe are now convening with other government offices to talk about how to intensify our operations against the entry of illegal drugs into local ports through transshipment,β said Provido.
It was learned that during the recent visit of Area Police Command Visayas Commander Major General Robert Rodriguez, he personally ordered Provido to zero in on the local ports to stop the entry of illegal drugs.
βWe have deployed our personnel sa mga local ports to help the PCG monitor drug transportation. We are exerting more efforts to at least prevent drug entry,β Provido added.
On the other hand, Guimaras Police Provincial Office director Colonel Rhea Santos said all four ports in the neighboring island province of Guimaras were already secured with more police personnel detailed.
βNaka-handa na ang ating pulis to watch over sa mga ports na baka dito ang mga drug pushers dadaan kung masyadong mahigpit ang bantay sa Iloilo,β Santos said./PN
