BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) has initiated road clearing operations in three areas of the city due to the closure of a portion of Lacson Street for the upcoming MassKara Festival 2024.

The road closure, which started at 8 p.m. on October 22 and would last until 5 a.m. on October 28, will accommodate the installation of stages, booths, and kiosks for the Food and Music Festival, part of the MassKara festivities scheduled from October 25 to 27, according to the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation Inc. (BYFI).

BTAO deputy officer Jose Antonio Robello explained that with the road closure in place, their team is strictly enforcing traffic regulations on Gatuslao Street, Aguinaldo Street, and Cottage Road, which are expected to handle redirected traffic from Lacson Street.

“We are clearing these roads to ensure smooth traffic flow, as motorists will use them as alternate routes during the closure,” Robello said.

He also warned that vehicles obstructing traffic in these areas will be towed.

The closed section of Lacson Street extends from the intersection of B.S. Aquino Drive to South Capitol Road. Northbound motorists, including public utility vehicles, are advised to take Gatuslao Street, while southbound traffic will be rerouted through Aguinaldo Street. A one-way traffic scheme will be implemented on both streets during the closure.

Robello emphasized that the closure is necessary for safety reasons, as large stages will be set up along the Lacson Tourism Strip. Motorists are encouraged to use detours via B.S. Aquino Drive and San Juan Street./PN
