ILOILO City – Undulating terrains and breathtaking landscapes lead to Malinamon Waterfalls in the mountains of Barangay Jaena Norte in Jamindan, Capiz.
Located near Camp Macario Peralta, a military camp, the waterfalls is one of the top tourist destinations in the town. The poor condition of the road leading to the falls, however, was a factor why despite its beauty, only a few tourists visited the falls in the past years.
Thus, to address the need for better access, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Capiz Second District Engineering Office, in convergence with the Department of Tourism (DOT), the construction of access road leading to this beautiful destination was undertaken.
According to District Engineer Dene B. Baldonado, Jr., the project, in the amount of P19.396 million, involved concrete paving of 1.34 kilometer access road leading to Malinamon Falls. It also includes provision of drainage and slope protection with pipe culverts, grouted riprap and stone masonry.
Other than the expected increase in the number of tourists who will experience the grandeur of the Malinamon Falls due to better road, the project will also enhance economic growth in Barangay Jaena Norte. The said barangay is already bustling with economic activity due to the presence of a military camp in the community.
Moreover, indigenous people from Jaena Norte will also benefit the project. The road will provide them with ease in terms of traveling to and from their community, as well as in transporting and trading their products in the market./PN
