BORACAY – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Roger G. Mercado recently inaugurates phase 3 of the Boracay Circumferential Road. The inauguration was attended by Senior Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut, Undersecretary Maximo L. Carvajal, Assistant Secretary Wilfredo S. Mallari and DPWH Region 6 Regional Director Tiburcio DL Canlas
The 1.4-kilometer road portion of the total 21.6-kilometer Boracay Circumferential Road connects Cagban port to junction of Tambisaan port in Brgy. Manoc-Manoc, which are the entry/exit points to Boracay Island.
The ₱140-million project involves concreting/widening of the existing road, construction of drainage system, sidewalk with paving blocks, installation of solar street lights, sprigging, application of thermoplastic pavement markings, and provision of access for persons with disabilities.
Secretary Mercado said the improvement of Boracay Circumferential Road is a manifestation of so many purposes such as the determination and political will of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to see that Boracay will remain and be sustained as the prime world tourism destination in the Philippines.
“We have here a very beautiful infrastructure program. The Boracay Circumferential Road will benefit the ordinary citizen to improve their livelihood; and now we can see that the ordinary people are benefiting from this beautiful and determined hard work of our President,” Secretary Mercado said.
Meantime, DPWH 6 Regional Director Tiburcio DL Canlas said that the improvement of the 21.6-kilometer Boracay Circumferential Road, with the total funding of ₱1.94 billion, will reduce travel time from Cagban port in Brgy. Manoc-Manoc to Ilig-Iligan Beach in Brgy. Yapak.
“With this improvement, travel time from Cagban port to Ilig-Iligan Beach will be reduced from 1 hour 30 minutes to only 40-45 minutes. This will also provide connection between Cagban and Tambisaan ports,” Director Canlas said. dpwhr6/PN
