ILOILO – Between January and October this year, 1,470 vehicular accidents in this province claimed 94 lives, according to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
This was 4.92-percent lower than last year’s 1,546 road mishaps.
However, the fatalities were up by 36.23 percent.
Deaths in the same period last year reached 69, IPPO records showed.
According to Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, IPPO director, the province was logging an average of five road accidents daily.
Gorero hopes the massive road safety awareness drive through social media and random checkpoints and operations of the Land Transportation Office and the police would help reduce road accidents and deaths./PN
