Road rage leads to shooting in Sibalom

SAN JOSE, Antique – A road altercation led to shooting in Barangay Pantao, Sibalom, Antique.

The 43-year-old Higinel “Bobet” Maniba of Barangay 3, San Jose sustained gunshot wounds on the thigh and waist.

Maniba was brought to the Antique Medical Center in this capital town. He was later transferred to a hospital in Iloilo City where he was recuperating.

Police identified the suspect as the 31-year-old Barangay Catungan, Sibalom resident Elmer Cabrillos.

Cabrillos, a member of the Philippine Coast Guard, said the car that Maniba drove nearly sideswiped the motorcycle he was driving around 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 14.

Alleging that Maniba was drunk, Cabrillos confronted him. They were both armed.

Maniba drew his gun but Cabrillos was able to shoot first, police said.

Cabrillos surrendered to the Sibalom municipal police station, where he was detained.

The two unlicensed .45-caliber pistols seized from Maniba and Cabrillos were now in the custody of the Sibalom police./PN
