ILOILO City – The widening of Iloilo East Coast Capiz Road in Ajuy, Iloilo is set to be completed on March this year, according to officer in charge-District Engineer Flordelis Enriquez of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office.

Enriquez said the project, in the amount of P24.69 million funded under the District’s Fiscal Year 2019 General Appropriations Act, involves widening of both sides of the road, with the length of 803 meters or 1,646 lineal meters.

“This four-lane road would cater commuters from Iloilo City and other parts of Panay going to the northern part of Iloilo, which leads to various tourist destinations like the “Isla de Gigantes” in the town of Carles and island barangays in Concepcion,” Enriquez said.

“With this widened road, travelling to the beautiful spots in the north would be more convenient, more enjoyable and safer. More significantly, travel time from Iloilo City to the northern towns of Iloilo would be reduced and traffic congestion will be lessened, hence, delivery of goods and services would be faster and more convenient,” she added.

Said project is in support to the “Build, Build, Build” program of the Duterte Administration, thus, DPWH ensures the timely delivery of all infrastructure programs and projects.

“We make all necessary actions to finish our infrastructure projects on time, if not, before the scheduled date of completion or prepare catch-up plan in case there are delays due to unforeseen events like calamities and disasters,” she said.

Meantime, the District has completed the construction of a two-storey ICT Laboratory building in Sara National High School in Sara, Iloilo in the amount of P12.797 million while a new covered court in the same school, in the amount of P3.939 million, was also completed this year, that will serve as venue for various academic, social and cultural activities of the school in its neighboring barangays./PN
