ILOILO City – Monday’s fatal vehicular accident in Mandurriao district prompted the Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO) to form a unit with the sole task of apprehending vehicles making roads their parking areas.
The unit is composed of TMTRO personnel with motorcycles.
They will be roaming around the city apprehending illegally-parked vehicles, said TMTRO officer-in-charge Robert Foerster.
A pickup crashed against a parked cargo truck in Barangay Guzman-Jesena, Mandurriao early morning on Oct. 17. A passenger was crushed to death.
Following the accident, the Sangguniang Panlungsod identified roads where on-road parking is prohibited from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Sunday. In the City Proper, these are:
* Bonifacio Drive
* General Luna Street
* Fermin Caram Avenue (Iznart Street)
* J.M. Basa Street from the junction of Fermin Caram Avenue to the junction of Rizal and Zamora streets
* Ledesma Street from the junction of Iznart Street to the junction of Rizal Street
* Delgado Street from the junction of Fermin Caram Avenue to the junction of Mabini Street
* Mabini Street from the junction of Ledesma Street to the junction of General Luna Street
* Valeria Street from the junction of Ledesma Street to the junction of General Luna Street
* Rizal Street fronting the Iglesias ni Cristo compound
* entire stretch of Iznart Street, Valeria Extension (Barangay Nonoy), Muelle Loney Street, Quezon Street, Delgado Street, Jalandoni Street, Mabini Street, De Leon Street, and Duran Street.
POLICE HELP SOUGHT
Foerster admitted the TMTRO alone cannot fully enforce the on-road parking ban. He said he would seek the assistance of the Iloilo City Police Office.
“I will ask the police to help us apprehend erring drivers. Indi na ‘ya pwede mag-parking ang aton salakyan sa dalan kay delikado pareho sang natabo sa Guzman-Jesena,” he said.
Monday’s fatal road crash killed Regel Pesinio, 19, of Barangay Hibao-an, Mandurriao. Three others were injured – Pesinio’s elder brother Rulio, 21; Robert Rosales, 26, of Barangay Guzman-Jesena; and Argie Peñaflorida of Barangay Hibao-an.
The driver of their Isuzu pickup, Gianne Carlo Cepe, 21, was unhurt.
According to Superintendent Alexander Rosales, Iloilo City traffic chief, the pickup hit the rear of the parked cargo truck.
NO ON-ROAD PARKING
In Molo district, on-road parking is prohibited on the following:
* San Marcos Avenue
* M.H. Del Pilar Street
* Infante Avenue from the junction of M.H. Del Pilar Street to the junction of Lopez Jaena Street
* Lopez Jaena Street from the junction of Avanceña Street until the junction of M.H. Del Pilar Street
* Timawa Avenue.
In Mandurriao district, on-road parking is prohibited on the following:
* entire length of Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue
* R. Mapa Street
* Q. Abeto Street
* Guzman-Jesena Street.
In La Paz district, on-road parking is prohibited on the entire length of Luna Street, Huervana Street, Burgos-Mabini Street, and Rizal Street.
In the district of Jaro, on-road parking is prohibited on all streets surrounding Jaro Plaza, the entire length of Washington Street, the entire length of El 98 Street, entire length of Simon Ledesma Street, and entire length of E. Lopez Street.
On-road parking is also not allowed on Lopez Jaena Street from corner Simon Ledesma Street, Commission Civil Street, McArthur Drive (Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro to Barangay Buntatala, Jaro) and Jalandoni Street in Jaro./PN
