ILOILO – Concreting of roads and upgrading of public hospitals are among the priorities of the provincial government this 2017.
The bulk of the P3.1-billion budget of the provincial government this year goes to the Provincial Engineers Office mainly for the rehabilitation and construction of provincial roads.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. cited the impact of the KALSADA program or the Konkreto at Ayos na Lansangan at Daan Tungo sa Pangkalahatang Kaunlaran of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) road projects, “which resulted in the concreting of hundreds of kilometers of provincial roads in the province of Iloilo.”
This year, Defensor disclosed that under the new scheme of the Kalsada program, the provincial government will no longer provide counterpart in the concreting of a specific road project, which is used to be 30 percent.
On PRDP road projects, the provincial government will only provide 10 percent counterpart, which also used to be 30 percent.
The provincial government will also work on the upgrading of the 12 public hospitals in the province as the governor wants hospitals to be “real hospitals for the poor.”
This year, the province has P748.24 million for the district hospitals.
“I want to finish the repair, rehabilitation and upgrading of the 12 hospitals in the province. I want it done fast and complete everything before the end of the year,” said Defensor. (PNA)
