MANILA – Veteran forward Darryl Roberts was the third player to bid farewell to Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo before the kick-off of the 2020 Philippines Football League (PFL) campaign.
Kaya announced the departure of the Trinidad and Tobago international Roberts from the squad via social media. It was not clear, however, if he will sign for other PFL teams or take his talents overseas.
Prior to signing up with Kaya at the start of the 2019 season, the 36-year-old striker played for Global Cebu F.C. for two years. He also did his services for different clubs in different countries since 2004.
Goalkeeper Ref Cuaresma also parted ways with the club after a three-year stint that includes 2018 Copa Paulino Alcantara championship feat.
Cuaresma was the fourth player to leave after Ghanaian top-scorer Jordan Mintah signed with a Malaysian team, Arnie Pasinabo returned to Ceres-Negros F.C., and Roberts.
Aside from that, Kaya does still not have a new coach after it did not renew the contract of veteran mentor Noel Marcaida upon expiration at the end of 2019.
Having achieved runner-up finishes in the
2019 Philippines Football League and the 2019 Paulino Alcantara Cup, Kaya
Futbol Club-Iloilo is set to return in the 2020 Asian Football Confederation
(AFC) Champions Cup later this year./PN
