MANILA – While she said that running in the local position was “more attractive,” Vice President Leni Robredo is not closing her doors on the presidency in the 2022 national elections.
“Mula last year, sinabi ko na open ako sa lahat ng options. At ano ‘yung options na ‘yun? Tumakbo ako ng pangulo, governor, congressman, mayor. Or hindi na ako tumakbo at all – ‘yun ang gusto ng mga anak ko,” she said.
In her weekly Biserbisyong Leni radio program, Robredo admitted that she was entertaining the idea of running in the local position.
“Mas attractive sa ‘kin ang local. Ang hinahanap ko kasi ‘yung engagement sa ground,” according to Robredo.
“Ever since, ang trabaho ko, sa communities. Despite that, naiintindihan ko may responsibilities ako so I am not closing my doors on the presidency,” she added.
Last week, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV volunteered himself to be the standard-bearer of the 1SAMBAYAN, claiming that the vice president will run for the governor in Camarines Sur.
However, Robredo’s camp denied the allegations, saying that she was still weighing her options regarding the next political move. She also denied Trillanes’ claim that she transferred her voter’s registration to Naga City.
“Hindi pa po ako nagche-change ng registration kasi wala pang desisyon,” Robredo stressed.
The vice president asserted that she went home recently to arrange for the construction of her family’s property outside Naga City.
Robredo ranked fifth in the latest Pulse Asia survey of the most preferred presidential candidates for the 2022 elections, while Trillanes’ name was nowhere to be found in the survey./PN
