KALIBO, Aklan – Around 650 residents in Nabas, Aklan evacuated as strong winds and rains brought by super typhoon “Rolly” (international name: Goni) pounded the northwestern portion of Aklan, according to Nabas’ Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).
Yesterday morning, light to moderate rains hit the coastal barangays of Nabas.
The weather bureau raised tropical cyclone wind signal No. 2 over the northwestern portion of Buruanga, Ibajay and Nabas.
Winds of greater than 61 kilometers per hour (km/h) may be expected in at least 24 hours.
Nabas MDRRMC, as of 7 a.m. of Nov. 1, reported the forced evacuation of 124 families (541 individuals) in Barangay Alimbo Baybay; 10 families (52 individuals) in Barangay Poblacion; a family (five individuals) in Barangay Union; and nine families (49 individuals) in Barangay Habana.
They took shelter at Union Elementary School, Habana Elementary School, Nabas Municipal town hall, and Western Aklan Academy.
“Padayon kita sa pagbantay sa palibot agud masalbar atong pamilya ag atong kaugalingon,” said Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management officer Reynard Dela Cruz.
Mayor James Solanoy, meanwhile, urged residents to monitor flooding and rain-induced landslides in high-risk areas./PN
