ILOILO City – A police officer was found dead after accidentally shooting himself in their house in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City around 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30.

The 24-year-old patrolman, Val Liansing, was assigned to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) as a member of the Provincial Inter-Agency Monitoring Team. He was supposed to undergo training for the Basic Internal Security Operations Course (BISOC).

According to Police Station 7’s Police Staff Sergeant Mark Anthony Pabuaya, the victim appeared to be cleaning his personal firearm – a caliber.45 pistol – as several cleaning paraphernalia were discovered in his room when he accidentally squeezed the trigger.

Liansing was found inside the bathroom with a gunshot wound to his jaw.

Nagatinlo s’ya kuno sang iya firearm kag aksidente nga naglupok. Gin-try n’ya nga bulngon iya pilas amo na nga ara s’ya sa sulod sang comfort room nakita,” Pabuaya said.

His colleagues rushed him to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, but he died at around 3:40 p.m.

On the other hand, Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director, Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco, ordered the Police Station 7 chief to conduct an investigation and give assistance to the family.

“I had already talked with my men na asikasohin ang pamilya ng pulis natin while waiting for the final result of the investigation,” Francisco said.

Just this 2022, Liansing and his family won the “Sa Mata ng Batang 4Ps” category of the Salaysay ng Buhay ng Pamilyang Pantawid.

In his essay, entitled “Mata”, the cop narrated his life as a breadwinner after his biological father died.

His grandmother, mother, stepfather and siblings are all visually impaired.

Liansing is an Expanded Student Grant-in-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (ESGP-PA) scholar.

He graduated with the degree Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Crop Science from the West Visayas State University (WVSU)-Calinog Campus, but opted to join the Philippine National Police instead. He became a police officer in August of 2020./PN
