BACOLOD City – An alleged rooster thief ended up with bruises all over his body on Monday morning.
The 21-year-old Frances Cañete, a resident of the said village, was mauled by angry residents of Sitio Guianon in Barangay Poblacion, Escalante City, Negros Occidenta.
Escalante City police said at around 1 p.m., Cañete broke inside the backyard property owned by brothers Jordan and Novem Guinanao.
Cañete proceeded to the chicken cages and allegedly stole two rooster stags.
However, the suspect was spotted by the Guinanao brothers’ friend James Alegato who immediately alerted the brothers and several residents.
Cañete attempted to escape on foot but was cornered and got mauled before he was handed over to the village officials.
The village officials later turned over Cañete to police.
Cañete could face theft charges and is being detained at the police station./PN
